The Hyksos invaded the Nile Delta of Egypt and ruled it from 1550 B.C Their origin is uncertain, but archaeologists hypothesize that they were Canaanites. In support of this hypothesis, the archaeologists point out that excavations of Avans, the Hyksos capital in Egypt, have uncovered large numbers of artifacts virtually identical to artifacts produced in Ashkelon, and Ashkelon was a major city of Canaan at the time of the Hyksos' invasion.

In order to evaluate the force of the archaeologists evidence ,it would useful to determine which of the following ?

Though sucking zinc lozenges has been promoted as a treatment for the common cold, research has revealed no consistent effect.  Recently, however, a zinc gel applied nasally has been shown to greatly reduce the duration of colds.  Since the gel contains zinc in the same form and concentration as the lozenges, the greater effectiveness of the gel must be due to the fact that cold viruses tend to concentrate in the nose, not the mouth.

Which of the following, if true, would most weaken Krech's objections to Martin's theory?

Five hundred million different species of living creatures have appeared on Earth, nearly 99 percent of them vanishing.
