In the year following an eight-cent increase in the federal tax on a pack of cigarettes, sales of cigarettes fell ten percent.  In contrast, in the year prior to the tax increase, sales had fallen one percent.  The volume of cigarette sales is therefore strongly related to the after-tax price of a pack of cigarettes.

Read the statement and the instructions that follow it, and then make any notes that will help you plan your response. Begin typing your response in the box at the bottom of the screen.

"When choosing whether to work in color or in black-~and-white, the photographer .  who wishes to be successful should keep in mind that because color photographs are more true-to-life, magazines use more color photographs than black-and-white ones ,and  many newspapers are also starting to use color photographs. The realism of color also accounts for the fact that  most portrait studios use more color film than black -and-white film. Furthermore, there are more types of color film than black-and-white film available today. Clearly, photographers who work in color have an advantage over those who work in black-and-white."

Discuss how well reasoned. . .etc
In respond to the choice of whether to work in color or in black-and-white ,as well as the tendency of the color, the argument that there are more types of color film than black-and-white film available today suffers a number of flaws that must be addressed to substantiate. The conclusion that photographers who work in color have an advantage over those who work in black-and-white can not be supported by the dubious assumption and the tenuous evidence, it needs to be reappraised careful. First, the argument does not explain the difference between color and black-and-white, as well as why the color has been more used than the black-and-white today. However, without the evidence or explanation offered by the author, we do not know whether the cause of choosing the color rather than the black-and-white. In fact , different situations need different choices, for example, there are some photographers like the black-and-white photo art and their photos got the award in the competition. Second, the argument that using the color means the success and the color photographs are more true-to-life need to mandate a re-evaluation. How can the author get this point? There is no doubt that the color photographs are more true-to-life, but the art of the black-and-white is popular in the artists who give the reaction to our society by their the black-and-white work which can eliminate the other factors that will influence the main idea of their work. Moreover, the argument describes that the magazines and the newspapers are also starting to use color photographs. In fact, the decision can not be regarded as the good way to attract the readers. Because the color photographs mean the rising of the cost, and the added cost will improve the price of the magazines newspapers. The way of attracting the people to buy magazines and newspapers is to improve their context and the reality. Finally, the conclusion that photographers who work in color have an advantage omit a serious concern. Because using the color photographs just a way to attract more the new customer and retain the old customer and it does not exist a best way to solve the problem. From the given reason above, the justification of the argument is undermined by several deficiencies, the conclusion 'the point of the color that photographers who work in color have an advantage over those who work in black-and-white' can not drawn from the evidence that has been proved. If it included the point of the explaining of the color or the comparison, the argument would have been more thorough and persuasive.

The author mentions which of the following as a disadvantage of urban employment for Latin American women in the lowest socioeconomic group?

Which of the following most logically completes the passage?

Garnet and RenCo each provide health care for their employees.  Garnet pays for both testing of its employees' cholesterol levels and treatment of high cholesterol.  This policy saves Garnet money, since high cholesterol left untreated for many years leads to conditions that require very expensive treatment.  However, RenCo does not have the same financial incentive to adopt such a policy, because __________.

In addition to her work on the Miocene hominid fossil record, Mary Leakey contributed to archaeology through her discovery of the earliest direct evidence of hominid activity and through her painstaking documentation of East African cave paintings.
In addition to her work on the M hominid fossil record,Mary Leakey contributed to archaeology through her discovery of the earliest direct evidence of hominid activity and through her discovery of the earliest direct evidence of hominid activity and through her painstaking documentation of East African cave paintings.

B 定位到decline in patent quality,但是后面只是说be related to一个way,不是选项中的forced,排除。
