B选项我觉得appear 应该是过去式，因为后面句子的主要谓语动词为led，用了过去式，根据句意，前面半句Neanderthal 出现是为了面对困难，"出现"应该在"导致"之前，led是过去式，所以appear也应该是过去式。
2.E选项for doing也可以表示目的，为什么不对呢~
