The following appeared in a memorandum from the owner of Carlo's Clothing to the staff.

"Since Disc Depot, the music store on the next block, began a new radio advertising campaign last year, its business has grown dramatically, as evidenced by the large increase in foot traffic into the store. While the Disc Depot's owners have apparently become wealthy enough to retire ,profits at Carlo's Clothing have remained stagnant for the past three years. In order to boost our sales and profits, we should therefore switch from newspaper advertising to frequent radio advertisements like those for Disc Depot."

The author believes that Carlo’s clothing will benefit more from radio advertisements than new advertising and hopes such benefits will boost the shop’s sales and profits. However the author omits the fact that Cloth shop may not benefit from the radio advertisements the way music store does, that radio advertisements may not be of any better than newspaper advertising, that there are other reasons the shops profits stagnated, and that a large increase in foot traffic does not guarantee a business growth. First off, the author inaccurately assumed that what happen to a music store will also happen to a cloth store. However the cloth store and the music store are to totally different businesses. The author did not address if the customers are likely to receive cloth advertising from the same source where they receive music advertising. Also, radio may work better for music store because it can play a excerpt of musics. Second the author assumed radio advertisements are better than newspaper advertising without sound proof. The author did not address if the people prefer reading newspaper for cloth advertisements to listening audio for such information. The author also did not address if newspaper advertising has better coverage than radio advetisements. Also, the author overlooks other facts that may be the main reason preventing the shop from its intended increase in sales and profits. The author overlooks the problems that may happen in the shop’s supply chain, in the after sell service, in the price competitiveness. Last, a increase in foot traffic will not guarantee a boost in sales and profits. Because more people in a shop may not bring in more sales. In fact, an increase in foot traffic can mean more cost; The shop need sto put more labor to rearrange the cloth on the display after customers tried and decided not to buy; the shop need clean the floor and change the door mat more often, and the shop needs to hire more people to cater for the increase foot traffic. (The shop will increase its profits only when the increase in profits is more than the cost paying for the radio advertising. 这句貌似写错地方了)
