The Chicago and Calumet Rivers originally flowed into the St. Lawrence by way of Lake Michigan, but having been redirected by constructing canals so that the water now empties into the Mississippi by way of the Illinois River.

C、Rivers, which originally flowed into the St. Lawrence by way of Lake Michigan but have been redirected by the construction of
D、Rivers, originally flowing into the St. Lawrence by way of Lake Michigan, but having been redirected by the construction of
E、 Rivers, originally flowing into the St. Lawrence by way of Lake Michigan, have been redirected through the construction of

答案:

E

想知道为什么E的"the construction of..." 比 A的by constructing更好? RON说because we are talking about the process from a detached standpoint (i.e. there's no mention of a a subject who is directly involved )vs. the army engineering corps redirected the rivers by constructing canals. Verbal nouns (like "the exposure") are impersonal: they don't convey the idea that the subject is directly involved.Gerund generally do convey the idea that the subject is directly involved in the process。

Thirteen states from all regions的题,优先选了动词by adopting而不是adoption ,我听那题英老师的录音说by后面通过的是一个动作所以优先用动词。 换句话说这里其实和which originally flow into。。 Winning the nobel prize,he became one of the best scientists in the world.
